An update from the Superintendent. Michael Prior about Virtual Learning
December 4, 2020
A message from Banner Schools:
I have analyzed the data for this week and met with several administrators in surrounding districts today. Schools in close proximity using distant /virtual learning for the upcoming week include Darlington, Maple, Yukon, Bethany, and Riverside. Canadian County remains in the severe RED risk zone with Yukon being a top area in the state for infection. We had many parents and students not complying on Monday and Tuesday as requested with the wearing of mandated masks. This puts everyone at risk. Several students and/or family members have tested positive for COVID-19 this week. Several essential staff members will be absent throughout next week as well. The staff at Banner was surveyed today. 90% of staff want to remain in distant virtual learning due to safety and health concerns for the upcoming week.
Based on all data, current state of threats to safety and health, and the input of my staff, I have made the decision to remain in distant/virtual instruction for the week of Dec. 7-11. Missing these days of in person instruction compared to the risk of spreading the virus is not worth losing a staff member, student, or someone in our families. The Banner Staff will continue to be at the school and provide assistance in any way possible to students and families.
I will appreciate your cooperation and grace as a Banner Stakeholder
Banner Public School will remain in distant virtual learning for all students during the week of Dec. 7-11, 2020.
